Lubrication and maintenance with Motul products

Your KOVE does not call for a brand: it calls for a specification. Here is the one the manufacturer defines for each model, and the Motul references that declare they meet it.

Two facts, two owners

What the bike requires

The SAE grade, API level, JASO standard and oil quantity are defined by the motorcycle manufacturer. They are the specification that must be met.

What Motul declares

Which of its references meet that specification is declared by Motul in its catalogue. We publish both separately so you can see where each one comes from.

Which oil each KOVE calls for

The values come from the technical documentation Motul supplied to Carrera Motos for the range sold in Colombia.

Quantity when replacing the oil filter. Draining without changing the filter, and a full engine strip, take different amounts: those are in your bike's manual.

Your motorcycle's manual is the document that governs. Check it before every oil change, and if anything differs from this table, the manual prevails.

The references

Names exactly as they appear in Motul's catalogue in Colombia. We spell them out on purpose: in other countries the chain line is numbered, and the number will not find the product here.

Engine oil

MOTUL 7100 4T

On your bike the same oil lubricates the engine, drives the gearbox and bathes the clutch: it runs hot, gets sheared between gear teeth and still has to let the clutch bite without slipping. Motul presents 7100 4T as its 100% synthetic line for everyday motorcycles.

Declared standards: API SP · JASO MA2 (2023)

Viscosities: 5W-40 · 10W-30 · 10W-40 · 10W-50 · 10W-60

MOTUL 5100 4T

Motul's mid tier: semi-synthetic with its Technosynthese ester technology. It declares the same standards as the 7100; what changes is the base it is made from.

MOTUL CHAIN LUBE FL MC

The racing version of the chain line, for standard chains and chains with seals.

Reference: 111658

Frequently asked questions about your KOVE's oil

Which oil does my KOVE take?

It depends on the model. The table on this page gives the SAE grade, API level and JASO standard the manufacturer defines for each KOVE sold in Colombia. Always confirm against your motorcycle's manual.

How many litres of oil does it take?

Between 2.4 and 3 litres depending on the model, when replacing the oil filter. Draining without changing the filter takes less, and a full engine strip takes more: those quantities are in the manual.

How often is the oil changed?

According to your bike's maintenance plan. The first four services of the official plan are at 1,000, 3,000, 6,000 and 9,000 kilometres, and they are included at no cost with your bike.

Can I buy the Motul products yet?

Not yet. They will be available at Carrera Motos and we will announce it here and in News when we open sales.

Can I use another brand of oil?

You can use any lubricant that meets the specification your motorcycle requires. What the warranty excludes is the use of lubricants that do not meet that specification, so check the grade and the standards before buying.
